Switching gears

If any of you have been following my posts ( or lack thereof) you will know I experienced a bit of an indentity crisis regarding the direction of my blog upon returning to NYC. Though I still love fashion and will always, I have grown tired of being held down by that category for my personal blog. Perhaps interning for The Daily Obsession and writing on my own about the whole fashion world was just too much fashion for this gal to handle.

After weeks of thinking it over I have decided I am switching gears to my second greatest love in the world: FOOD. Since moving to the Union Square area I have come up with a project for myself. This year I want to attempt to eat all the way down 6th avenue from 14th st to Houston, both sides of the street are game. Then I will dutifully report back to you guys with my findings. Hopefully along the way I will dine at some delicious restaurants, try some new dishes, and expand my list of fav restaurants in the Greenwich Village area, or go broke trying.

Stay tuned for a review of a few of the eatery’s I have already tested being served up soon.

Guys,

I am absolutely sick of this blog. I have no idea what direction I want it to take but I know I don’t want it to be limited to fashion. Of course saying that is a bit of a catch 22 because I definitely feel like my blog needs a direction. I am not the kind of person who does well without some kind of overarching theme. I think the real problem is that I am no longer sure what I want to do after college. When I started this blog I was gung-ho about the scary world of fashion journalism. Here I was in New York City, the mecca of all things fashion, over-excited, over-stimulated, and over-confident for my life ahead. I was so sure I could be the next Anna Wintour. Now I am not so sure that, given the opportunity,I even want to her job. Lately I have just been interested in so many things. My mind is all over the place and it kills me to think I need to pick just one subject to concentrate on. What if I spend all this time pouring myself into one pursuit only to find out it is not what I am meant to do with my life. Laugh all you want but being on the verge of 20 years old makes me feel like time is actually drifting away like the sand in an hour-glass. Before I know it I will wake up 35. . .Ironically, as I write this I am still lusting over yet another pair of Marc Jacobs shoes and planning out what to wear tonight. Only now, I feel no urge to share this with the blog world. Fashion, for me, has become more private. Perhaps I have outgrown my showboat ways……

Readers, if I have any, please bear with me in the coming months as I combat this radical mental change. Being on the verge of leaving pleasant Nashville for busy NYC has got me all messed up! Hopefully this blog can pull through and be better than ever. I’m hoping I will undergo some revelation that will solve all my problems. Realistically that is not the kind of luck I have.

This saturday has been full of excitement.

9:30-11:30 2 HOUR spin class I was soo dreading was limited to 1 hour due to broken AC

12-2 The most amazing brunch at Bricktop’s here in Nashville. French Toast was to die for.

2-3 Shopping with my mom always ends in a new item, this time I really lucked out

Afternoon Nap, afternoon walk with my Dad, and a trip to the lovely Las Paletas for a grapefruit pop

The Nashville weather must be in sync with my inner emotions. Chris left today after a quick 5 day visit and of course, as I mope around the house, feeling like I lost my other half, it pours rain outside. In a way I am thankful because all I feel like doing is catching up on a few tv shows, reading, and indulging myself in some good old fashioned crying. I really have no drive for much else. Though I will be back in the city in 5 weeks, today that 5 weeks feels like a million. I can painfully admit that Nazareth had it right. Love sure hurts.

Second Half of Summer

I apologize for my lack of posting lately. I guess blogging for The Daily Obsession sapped me of the urge to blog for my own site (sad). Anyway I finally left the big apple in order to spend a few quieter months in Nashville, TN. So far I have loved every minute of my back home life. Things sure are easier in the South, quieter and cheaper, too. Being home has sparked an intense internal debate of where I really want to be. While I love New York with its vibrancy and culture, there is something so peaceful and comforting about being back where I was born. While I try not to dwell too heavily on this battle, it is a question I ponder more frequently than most. I wish I could say I was ready to be back in New York just like I wish I could say I never wanted to leave Nashville. And they say summer is supposed to be carefree!

I am currently enjoying a few vacation weeks in Monteagle Tn. Look at that view, what I see every day up here. I’ve been reading a ton up here and have a few book recos for y’all!

Last night I saw Hair on Broadway. It is absolutely amazing, full of energy, great cast, and unlike many other shows I have seen. Berger and Claude are very attractive, too. The whole scandalous nudity did not bother me as it was tastefully done. I’d say the pantomiming of sexual acts was more graphic anyway. Controversy or not, I highly recommend Hair. Hint-pay for aisle seats!

Tonight I won free tickets to Twelfth Night but due to the shiteous weather (we have not had more than 3 days of continuous sun in 2 months) I decided not to go. Something about being poured on for a couple of hours seemed unappealing.

I am ready for Nashville heat and sun!

I want nothing more than to curl up on my bed and watch movies back to back all day long. All I need is a bag of popcorn and a mug of tea and my pj’s and I am set. It is just one of those rainy, dreary days…..

I was feeling like my wardrobe was just a little drab so I did some therapy shopping. I needed a few basics that I could wear to babysit and then out (I am constantly running from one place to the next, but the who isn’t?) I am pretty pleased with what I found.

My new favorite look is a solid tee with gold accesories. I found this oversized bangle at H&M and this gold chain necklace at Forever 21. The boyfriend fit tee is also Forever 21. This whole look cost under 10 too!

I have been really bad about updating lately. For that I offer you my sincerest apologies. Since summer began I have been babysitting every day, sometimes twice a day, interning for TDO, and trying to get out and experience the city in the between. It has been weird being here in NYC instead of home in Nashville, where I have spent every summer of my life. I can’t say I don’t miss home, in fact sometimes I miss it a little too much. Of course this city is amazing and I am more than thankful for all the oppurtunites I have been given so far. Let’s hope they keep on coming until I leave for home June 28. And let’s hope I find a few more minutes to post on my blog, too!
